"Ms. Bennett, when asked what statement Tumblr was making by bringing her and Mr. Mohney on board, said, “Tumblr is basically hiring a staff to celebrate creativity and innovation. How many companies can say that?"

It seems to me that a more effective way of “celebrat[ing] creativity and innovation” among one’s users would be making it easier for those users to find one another, not via “curation” but by, say, a search function that actually works, and by maintaining servers that don’t crash several times weekly thereby rendering it impossible or at least a little tricky for said users to create and/or innovate and/or post pizza- and/or cat-related gifs on your social media platform. But, um, hooray for job creation, I guess?!
And before you say, “Hey, you can’t complain about this, it’s a free service!” I would like to tell you, “Hey, no one has ever asked me if I would like to pay for my Tumblr use, but the answer might actually be, ‘Yes, actually, I would consider it, if the service seemed like it would be markedly improved and if the price was right, because I get a lot out of this platform both personally and professionally, and I really value that, thanks for asking, oh wait you did not ask, this is all just me talking to myself when I should be doing real work, but whatever, hopefully my point has been made.’”
